I’m Monica!

My history is a little - non traditional! I studied television, theatre and radio and fell in love with the stage. Whilst i gave acting a go .. my real passion was back stage. Working as a stage manager I loved being the glue that kept everything together. My first corporate role was at a magazine distributor in Auckland NZ circa 2001 (pre 9/11) -i’m old ;(

I worked on titles like Vogue, New Scientist, Rolling Stone. And yep, I got to have fancy meetings, launch parties and organize publicity for editors. But there’s not much $$ is magazines - especially retail sales. So there was hardly any marketing budget. So, as the sole marketer for these titles - I made friends with nearly every radio DJ and b-grade television presenter across New Zealand and quickly learned how to make the most of every possible connection! I also got my own magazine review on a popular radio station and I soon became a bit of a hot commodity with publishers needing any kind of publicity they could get!

I also got experience in every facet of traditional below the line marketing and in store promotions and loved every minute of it.

From there, I went on to Saatchi & Saatchi New Zealand (and then other top-tired agencies) where I managed multi-million-dollar campaigns across AUST and NZ for brands like Telecom, Yalumba Wines, and TVNZ. I managed the advertising campaigns for shows like Desperate Housewives, Dancing With The stars and even won a CANNES bronze for an Ugly Betty Campaign. I helped to launch 3G and used to do monthly international reports to the directors and strategist of both agency and client side. I also worked closely with strategists and grew an absolute love for the key custom insight. I also went to Auckland University and did a brand strategy certificate at a post grad level.

This is where I learnt about the importance of connecting with your customer, the brands story and building a brand that is reflected across every single touch point. Whether is was a massive television campaign, a billboard, magazine ad or radio ad, or below the line marketing like digital, emails, events or the in store brochure. Every single customer touchpoint was (and is) an opportunity to reflect your brand and create a moment with the customer.

And that’s what I bring to every client I work with now.
